Parma Heights honors utility workers for life-saving rescue after storm

Parma Heights City Council on Sept. 23 recognized three utility workers — Robert Cecil, Brian Green and Sean Groom — for pulling a resident from a burning home shortly after a storm struck, an act officials said saved the man’s life.
Mayor Gallo introduced the honorees and described how the linemen and meter-service employees “acted swiftly and decisively,” calling 911 and pulling the resident from a window. Safety Director Scharschmidt told the council, “It was a very courageous act; you should be very proud of yourselves.” Fire Chief Bernard offered similar praise, saying the workers’ "immediate response...not only saved Mr. Price but insured the safety of his beloved dog Tank." Chase Conklin, representing Congressman Max Miller’s office, said the congressman had provided Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition for the three men.
The rescued resident, identified in the meeting as Mr. Price, attended and thanked the workers. Council President Tom Rounds and other members joined officials in applauding the group and asked the public to join them in recognizing the employees’ bravery.
The council meeting paused briefly to allow attendees to step out of the chamber and resumed to continue the evening’s legislative business.
