Madison County Board approves $415,861 contract for jail medical services

The Madison County Board voted unanimously Feb. 19 to approve a one-year contract with Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc., to provide medical services at the Madison County Jail for the contract year Feb. 2020 through Jan. 2021, at a total not-to-exceed amount of $415,861.80.
The agreement covers an annual base payment of $355,861.80 with an authorized additional $60,000 to cover charges tied to changes in the jail’s average daily population and off‑site medical expenses, the resolution says. The contract will be paid from the jail medical budget.
Why it matters: medical care is a recurring and substantial county expense that directly affects inmate health, off-site medical costs and the jail budget. Committee sponsors told the board the contract meets the county’s specifications for correctional medical services and that the contingency for ADP and off‑site care provides budgetary flexibility.
The board also adopted an amended resolution related to the prior contract year (Feb. 2019–Jan. 2020) that records a 2019 contract amount of $396,739.45; the 2020 resolution supersedes earlier authorizations. The Judiciary and Finance committees recommended the 2020 contract.
The motion carried on a roll-call vote of 23–0. The resolution was submitted to the board by members of the Judiciary Committee and read into the record by committee chair Mike Walters.
Next steps: county officials will execute the contract and continue to report jail medical expenditures through the budget and claims process.
