Madison County Board postpones Board of Health resolution denouncing vaccine mandates to allow Health Board review

Madison County’s Board voted Dec. 15 to postpone consideration, to the Board of Health and the Health Advisory Board, of a resolution denouncing vaccine mandates, mandatory testing, terminations and exclusions.
Sponsors said the resolution sought to "protect the individual rights of employees, students and families" and discourage employer or school district vaccine mandates. The resolution — prepared by the Government Relations Committee and presented while the board sat as the Board of Health — included language urging employers and school districts to respect individual choice and stating the County would not impose vaccine mandates on its own employees.
Chairman Kurt Prenzler and County legal counsel raised concerns about whether the Board of Health and Health Advisory Board had been given proper notice to review the matter and whether the county’s Health Director and advisory members had sufficient opportunity to examine the resolution. County legal counsel advised that postponing to a properly noticed Board of Health meeting would be the appropriate procedural step.
Board member Michael Holliday moved and the board voted to postpone consideration until the next properly noticed Board of Health meeting and to allow review by the Health Advisory Board. The motion passed on roll call (AYES 19, NAYS 9).
The postponement means the policy language will receive committee‑level and Health Board review before the County Board (sitting as the Board of Health) considers final action.
