Greenville council unanimously approves routine agenda and a string of project purchases

The Greenville City Council unanimously approved a package of routine and project-specific actions at its Sept. 5 meeting, voting to adopt the consent agenda and to authorize several contracts and purchases for city operations.

The consent agenda — which included amended minutes from meetings earlier in 2023, payroll and accounts-payable reports, minutes from the Historic District Commission and Downtown Development Authority meetings, the July financial report and training information — was moved by Councilperson Moss and seconded by Councilperson Lehman and adopted without dissent. The consent items also included setting a public hearing for Oct. 3, 2023, on a proposed amendment to Chapter 42, Article I, of the City Code to regulate motor vehicles.

Among New Business, the council unanimously approved: relief to Greenville Public Schools to allow Legacy Field lights to be used beginning 3:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, for Wood TV8’s "Football Frenzy" broadcast (motion by Councilperson Johnson; second by Councilperson Lehman); a change order for Phase 2 of the Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion and an extension of contractor RK Davis’s completion date to Nov. 30, 2023 (motion by Councilperson Lehman; second by Councilperson Johnson); the purchase of 911 cellular call boxes from 911iNET for up to $3,300 (motion by Councilperson Lehman; second by Councilperson Cunliffe); and two radar speed signs from Radarsign for up to $6,000 (motion by Councilperson Moss; second by Councilperson Johnson).

The council also approved a professional-services contract for Parks and Recreation planning with PM Blough of Grand Haven, MI, not to exceed $11,800 (motion by Councilperson Lehman; second by Councilperson Barrus), and a one-day food-vendor permit for the Rotary Club of Greenville to operate a food truck at 313 S. Lafayette on Sept. 16, 2023, subject to conditions including compliance with health rules and payment of license fees (motion by Councilperson Moss; second by Councilperson Cunliffe). Councilperson Lehman moved and Councilperson Barrus seconded approval of the Items for Accomplishment list for fiscal year 2023–2024. All motions were adopted unanimously.
