Hamilton County plans new Soddy‑Daisy middle school on Daisy Elementary campus; county to release renderings

Commissioner Shipley told the Soddy‑Daisy Board on Aug. 17 that Hamilton County announced plans to build a new Soddy‑Daisy Middle School on the Daisy Elementary campus, creating a K–8 configuration while keeping the middle school and elementary school physically separated. Shipley said the high school will remain unchanged.
Shipley said the county aims to eliminate older buildings that require extensive maintenance and that new athletic facilities for the middle school are planned. He said a rendering of the proposed campus should be available in approximately six to eight weeks and that the overall project will take roughly three years to complete. Members of the audience raised concerns about increased traffic at the proposed site; Shipley said driveway layout changes and maintaining a wide driveway at Daisy Elementary (possible shift to Hyatte Road) were considered to mitigate traffic impacts.
Commissioner Penney asked whether the existing Daisy Elementary would be torn down; Shipley said the elementary would remain but would receive a gymnasium and commons area. Shipley emphasized the county's effort to reduce deferred maintenance costs by combining older schools into new facilities.
