Soddy‑Daisy approves five‑year lease for community garden; Eagle Scout to install trail markers

The Soddy‑Daisy Board of Commissioners on Nov. 2 approved a five‑year lease agreement with the KELCURT Foundation to permit a community garden on city property, City Manager Johnson said.
Curtis Cecil of the KELCURT Foundation described plans for twelve 8‑by‑4‑foot garden beds, including two raised beds designed for handicap accessibility and two market beds. "Ten percent of everything raised will be donated to the Soddy‑Daisy Food Bank," Cecil said. Participants will sign a Code of Conduct and will keep the vegetables they raise.
The commission also unanimously approved an Eagle Scout proposal from Jackson Gallagher of Boy Scout Troop 20 to install markers throughout the Gulf and produce a map of trails so people who need search and rescue assistance can provide clearer location information. Fire Chief Dusty Morgan said the project should be "very beneficial to first responders" because people lost in the Gulf have been unable to provide location information.

The Eagle Scout project addresses public‑safety navigation and could improve response times for search and rescue operations in the Gulf area.
