The ordinance amendment was approved on a motion by Vice‑Mayor Coleman and seconded by Commissioner Shipley with a unanimous vote. The board then approved a $100 holiday gift/bonus, historically provided to full‑ and part‑time employees, after City Manager Burt Johnson requested the expenditure.
The commission also approved procurement items tied to the budget amendment: picnic tables from Global Industrial at $21,889.92 to be installed at Scramble Alley, Veterans Park and North Park; a $16,772 fire‑hose order from Tennessee Fire Equipment (Fire Chief Dusty Morgan said the hose carries a 10‑month lead time and must be ordered now though it will be charged to next year’s budget); eight leisure chairs for Fire Station 1 from Dreamseat at $7,520.77; and four beds for Station 1 with under‑bed storage, approved with the plywood excluded for a net quoted cost of $4,744.00.
Each of the items above passed by unanimous voice votes. Mayor Everett closed the meeting and noted the next commission meeting is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2024.
Why it matters: The amendments and purchases allocate city funds for personnel morale, park amenities and fire‑station readiness; the hose order in particular was scheduled now to meet long vendor lead times and ensure delivery before next year’s operational needs.
