Commission approves tractor trade, reappoints tax assessor and clears Friendship Road for bidding

The Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County took several routine but immediate administrative actions at its June 3 regular meeting.
Surplus and equipment trade: The commission amended the agenda to declare a 2008 Massey Ferguson tractor surplus and authorized trading it to Carlson Brothers Tractor toward the purchase of a New Holland tractor for $10,000. The agenda amendment was moved by Commissioner Timothy Biddle and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas; the trade motion was moved by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Douglas. Both votes were recorded as unanimous with Commissioner Damon Hoyte absent.
Appointments and permits: Commissioners reappointed Carol Greer to Post 3 on the County Board of Tax Assessors for a four‑year term running June 1, 2025–June 1, 2029 (motion by Commissioner Gerald Douglas, seconded by Commissioner Biddle). The commission also approved a conditional use permit for a manufactured home on 15.13 acres at 410 Firetower Road (applicant: Spillers); the motion was moved by Commissioner Douglas and seconded by Commissioner Frost.
Roads and procurement: The commission authorized sending Friendship Road out to bid; the scope discussed with staff includes one surface coat, striping and resurfacing. Staff told the commission bids should be open in late July with a possible award by the August meeting. Commissioner Biddle noted constituent calls about potholes on Riverbend Road; public‑works staff are preparing repairs and longer‑term plans.
Other: The commission entered executive session at 6:45 p.m. for permitted legal/tax matters and reconvened at 7:04 p.m., with Chairman Charles Coffey stating that the closed discussion fell within exceptions to Georgia’s open meetings law and that no votes were taken in executive session.
The actions recorded at the June 3 meeting will appear in the formal minutes approved at the July 1 regular meeting.
