Neighbors spar as Spillers seek permit for mobile home on 15 acres at 410 Firetower Road

Brandi and Phillip Spillers told the commission May 27 they want to place a mobile home on a 15‑acre tract at 410 Firetower Road and establish it as their primary residence because they cannot afford to build a home now.
"They would like to come out here because of the community," the applicant said, adding the couple intends to set the home on a concrete slab.
Planning and Zoning recommended approval and staff told the commission the parcel is zoned R‑R and that the Spillers completed the checklist required by the planning office. The applicants said the property was once a 50‑acre tract that was subdivided into three parcels.
Neighbor Mark Henson spoke in opposition. "I just isn't for mobile homes at all," Henson said. "I see so many vacant and abandoned. Mobile homes depreciate, and when they get vacant and abandoned it makes the county look ugly." The chairman said he had received a written concern from an adjoining owner about CUVA status on adjacent land but that the owner's text indicated the adjoining parcel would not be developed.
The hearing concluded without a recorded vote; Planning and Zoning's recommendation and the neighbor comment will be placed before the commission for a decision on the permit at a later meeting or on the upcoming agenda.
