Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County approves fire‑tower agreement with Georgia Forestry Commission

The Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County voted June 3 to approve a Fire Tower Agreement and accompanying resolution with the Georgia Forestry Commission covering July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the agreement; Commissioner Timothy Biddle seconded. The motion carried unanimously with Commissioner Damon Hoyte absent. The agreement in the meeting packet states the county’s payment for the contract period shall not exceed $4,738.58, and the Forestry Commission will assign a fire‑tower operator to the Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County Forestry Unit.
The contract text specifies that the tower operator will be hired as a temporary day‑laborer and should not work more than 40 hours per week; Forestry may use other full‑time employees when a tower operator is not available, and local residents will be used to fill the position when possible. Georgia Forestry will submit a bill to the county at the end of the contract period, and either party may terminate the agreement on 30 days’ written notice. The commission also adopted a resolution authorizing Chairman Charles Coffey to execute the agreement on the county’s behalf.
County Attorney Bin Minter had summarized the paperwork and provided a handout; the formal agreement and implementing resolution are included in the meeting documents. The contract becomes effective July 1, 2025.
