Cusseta‑Chattahoochee commissioners reelect Coffey as chair; name Biddle vice chair

Charles Coffey was affirmed as chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Unified Government of Cusseta‑Chattahoochee County at the board’s regular meeting on Jan. 7, 2025. The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. at 215 McNaughton St. After an unsuccessful motion by Commissioner Damon Hoyte to appoint Commissioner Timothy Biddle as chair (no second), Commissioner Gerald Douglas moved to appoint Coffey; Commissioner Jason Frost seconded. Commissioner Hoyte voted against; the motion carried.
The board then approved Timothy Biddle as vice chairman on a motion by Commissioner Frost, seconded by Commissioner Douglas; the vote was recorded as unanimous. The commissioners also voted unanimously to approve minutes from Dec. 3, 2024 (regular and executive session) and Dec. 23, 2024 (work session and executive session).
The actions formalize leadership for the board as it prepares upcoming hearings and budget work in the new year. The meeting proceeded to routine agenda items and contract approvals before adjourning at 10:24 a.m.
The board entered executive session at 9:37 a.m. and reconvened at 10:23 a.m.; Chairman Coffey stated that the closed session topics were within legal exceptions under state law and that no votes were taken while the meeting was closed.
The next regular meeting was set for Feb. 4, 2025, and several items discussed at the Jan. 27 work session were slated for that agenda, including cemetery bylaws and planning/zoning matters.
