Commissioner Shipley expressed appreciation for staff and noted a new Soddy-Daisy Middle School is planned for the site of the old baseball field at the existing location. Shipley also said he wants to discuss establishing pay for the commission to begin at the end of his term; City Manager Burt Johnson said several long-tenured staff and potential retirees will require future planning.
Johnson confirmed that Billy Petty has been appointed the new chief of police and said Petty has worked for the city for 29 years. The board ended the meeting at 7:47 p.m.
