Soddy‑Daisy residents press for high‑school band support; city announces gala, Arbor Day

Tammy Baxter of Hixson told the board on Feb. 15 that Joshua Light, band director at Soddy‑Daisy High School, previously asked the board for a donation to help buy band equipment and has since outlined a proposed arrangement with a music company. Baxter said the high‑school band has a strong reputation and that 10 students performed with the US Navy Band at a recent concert.
Mayor Everett said the band donation request will be discussed at the next workshop; City Manager Burt Johnson told the board that the workshop is scheduled for the end of March. Baxter estimated attendance at the US Navy Band concert at about 1,150–1,200 people.
Also during citizen participation, Michelle Coffman introduced herself as a candidate for Circuit Court Judge and said she wants to "put families first." City Manager Johnson announced the Soddy‑Daisy Community Library Gala on March 2 at 6:00 p.m. and the third annual Arbor Day event on March 2 at 9:00 a.m. at Veterans Park.
