Dayton Pike paving project finishes under budget; $192,423 saved to help fund new city building

City Manager Burt Johnson told the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 15 that the final bill for the Dayton Pike Paving Project from Talley Construction came in below the contract amount and that the savings will be applied to a planned new city building.
Johnson said the original contract amount for the project was $4,028,469.26; the city’s final paid amount was $3,836,046.23, creating a reported savings of $192,423.03. He credited Public Works Director Grant with realizing the savings during project delivery and said the amount will be reallocated to the new building’s construction budget.
Commissioner Keith raised a separate property‑condition question about a burned house on Old Dayton Pike and said the owners appear to be improving the property; Public Works Director Grant said a contractor has contacted him and might inspect the site. The board did not take action on the property question during the meeting.
What comes next City staff indicated the project is closed administratively and the reported savings will be applied to the new building; the minutes do not record additional budget authorization steps or a vote specifically to reallocate the funds.
