Kittitas County adopts $40 nightly dry camping rate at fairgrounds, a $10 increase

The Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners on June 3 approved an amendment setting dry camping at the Kittitas Valley Event Center at $40 per night, an increase of $10 from the fee the county said had been in place since 2013.
Kady Porterfield, Kittitas Valley Event Center Director, told the board that at an April 1 public hearing the dry camping rates had been presented in error and should be charged as a daily (nightly) rate. Porterfield said the corrected rate is $40 per night for the Kittitas County Fair and Ellensburg Rodeo, and that the last rate increase occurred in 2013.
Michelle Schook, a Kittitas County resident and former 4‑H exhibitor, said she opposed the increase and had previously submitted a letter to Porterfield asking the board to justify the change. Vice‑Chairman Cory Wright asked Porterfield when rates were last increased; Porterfield replied that the prior increase was 12 years ago, in 2013.
Vice‑Chairman Cory Wright moved to adopt Resolution No. 2025‑109, amending the dry camping rate at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. Chairman Laura Osiadacz seconded the motion, and the resolution carried by voice vote, 2‑0.
The board did not specify an effective date for the amended rate in the meeting minutes. The special meeting concluded at 2:12 p.m.
