Council considers short-term lease for Heritage Park restroom parcel at 119 N. Main St.

At the Nov. 4 Snowflake Town Council work session, staff described a proposed lease of town-owned property at 119 N. Main St., known as Heritage Park, to allow a local business called Streets to manage patio service and maintain public restrooms.
Brian Richards told the council the parcel that includes the bathrooms would be easiest managed by a lease and would help Streets expand patio service while ensuring the town's bathrooms are maintained. Attorney Robert Wingo said lease terms could require the lessee to clean and repair the facility and carry insurance; he said the agreement could include provisions holding the lessee responsible for vandalism repairs.
Councilmember Mark Sheen recommended a short lease term because this is the first time the town would try such an arrangement. Wingo suggested a month-to-month arrangement would make it easier to terminate if issues arise: "we can make this a month to month so if there are issues it is easy to get out of it," he said. Brian Richards said he will speak with the owner of Streets to develop an agreement to bring to the council.
No formal lease was approved during the work session; staff will negotiate terms and return a proposed agreement to the council for consideration.
