Smyth County School Board approves IFB for Chilhowie pick-up loop, issues facilities RFP and awards band uniform bid

Chairman Susan Williams convened the Smyth County School Board on Dec. 8, 2025, and the board approved several operational items and routine finance measures.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included the November 2025 payroll paid Nov. 30, 2025 (checks #147709–147722 and electronic transfers) totaling $4,726,185.27, and other warrant register payments. Ben Adams, school board member, moved to approve the consent agenda; Sue Tilson, school board member, seconded the motion, which passed 6-0.
On facilities and procurement, the board authorized an invitation for bid (IFB) to expand the parent pick-up loop at Chilhowie Elementary School. Joe Johnson, school board member, made the motion and Ben Adams seconded; the motion passed 6-0. The board also voted 6-0 to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for a comprehensive facilities review for Smyth County Public Schools, a step the board described as part of longer-range planning for maintenance and capital needs.
The board awarded a bid from Fruhauf to provide marching band uniforms for Marion Senior High School. The motion to approve the Fruhauf bid passed on a 6-0 vote (motion by Ben Adams, second by Dr. Paul Grinstead).
Additionally, the board approved administrative scheduling changes, including revisions to the School Board lunch visitation schedule for spring 2026 (motion by Lynn White, seconded by Joe Johnson; vote 6-0).
These operational approvals and the consent agenda were routine and carried unanimously. No public comments were offered during the meeting.
The board adjourned after completing the agenda.
