Mercer County reviews 2026 budget, schedules hearing on $611,696 Bayview Heights assessment and approves $190,833 in bills

Commissioners asked staff to add $4,900 to the workers' compensation line, update all revenue estimates in the budget draft and to make targeted pay increases: $0.50 for County Road employees Rachel Grimm and Neil Siebel and $1.50 for each of seven county road deputies under the sheriff's office. The minutes do not specify whether those pay changes are permanent or for a single payroll period; the commission directed staff to incorporate the adjustments in the next budget draft.
During business items Commissioner Casey Voigt moved and Commissioner Jamee Folk seconded approval of August Recorder revenues in the amount of $5,012.80; the motion carried. Voigt also moved to appoint Commissioner Jamee Folk as the NDACo Fall Conference delegate; Vice Chairman Rick Bauman seconded and the appointment was approved.
Ron Boyko, president of the Sakakawea Bay Cabin Owners Association, updated the commission on the Bayview Heights Special Assessment District Road Project and requested that outstanding engineering and construction bills be paid. He said the association is working with Northern Improvement and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to correct two low spots (those repairs are not part of the assessment) so chip sealing can occur next year. The Notice of Confirmation of Special Assessment List, totaling $611,696.13, will be published in the Hazen Star and a public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Mercer County Government Building.
The commission moved to approve the bills as presented; Commissioner Casey Voigt made the motion and Commissioner Jamee Folk seconded. The minutes list approved payments to multiple vendors totaling $190,833.38. The meeting adjourned at 10:46 a.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Oct. 1, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
