On emergency services, the Board approved an interest‑free loan to the Montebello Volunteer Fire Department in the amount of $55,000 to purchase five self‑contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs) and 15 cylinders; Chief Kisner said the equipment would meet NFPA standards and improve compatibility with other county agencies. The loan term is eight years and was approved unanimously under R2024‑76.
The Board authorized staff to apply for a $21,045 distribution from the Opioid Abatement Authority to fund a pilot initiative at the Albemarle‑Charlottesville Regional Jail to transition to a more costly monthly injectable medication program for inmates with opioid use disorder, with Nelson’s pro‑rata share at 15.9 percent. Supervisors also approved allocating up to $15,000 to build a protective structure for the Piney River Trail caboose after a local fundraising shortfall.
All votes on these actions were unanimous (4‑0).
