Summary
Director Jennifer Schmack reported January metrics and updated the EDA on Project Expedition (a proposed gas-fired electric generation facility), several upcoming rezonings and special-use permits, and launched a county economic development website, YesFluvanna.org.
Jennifer Schmack, director of economic development for Fluvanna County, presented the authority’s January 2026 report and highlighted several land-use and outreach items.
Schmack reported the following January metrics: 37 visits to existing businesses; 19 partner agencies, networking events or conferences attended; 25 other contacts; 2 prospects/real-estate inquiries; 1 commercial kitchen inquiry; 0 commercial kitchen rentals; 2 small business referrals; and 0 ribbon cuttings.
She updated the board on Project Expedition, described in the report as a gas-fired electric generation facility, and noted upcoming rezonings and special-use permit requests, including a new solid waste recovery facility on Memory Lane, a proposed campground and a landscape material supply operation. Schmack said these items will move through the county’s land-use review process as applicants submit formal filings.
Schmack also announced a new economic development website, YesFluvanna.org, and told the board the EDA will need to update its Virtual Attendance Policy and bylaws; those updates will be placed on the March agenda for approval. She listed upcoming community events: a ribbon cutting for Hometown Grill on Feb. 17, an SBDC visit on Feb. 23 at the library, and a Fluvanna Business Alliance breakfast on Feb. 26 at Wahoo BBQ.
No formal votes were taken on Project Expedition or the land-use items at this meeting.
