The Charlotte County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 12 unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Patricia P. Berkeley for more than 25 years of service to the county, the board announced.
The resolution notes Berkeley began public service as a deputy treasurer on Jan. 10, 2000, was elected county treasurer beginning Jan. 1, 2008, and retired Sept. 30, 2025. It records Berkeley’s service in statewide treasurer organizations and her volunteer work with local nonprofits, including the Barksdale Cancer Foundation and Piedmont Senior Resources.
Chairman Walter T. Bailey led the recognition and the board voted to have the resolution permanently recorded in the county minutes. Vice-Chair Hazel Bowman Smith moved the resolution and Supervisor Sherry Tharpe seconded; the motion carried with all members present voting yes.
At the same meeting the board commended Central Middle School students and their art teacher Lisa Finnegan for creating a Veterans Day–inspired mural. Chairman Bailey highlighted the importance of veterans, and students and their teacher "expressed gratitude for the support from the Board of Supervisors, school board members, and the community," according to the minutes.
The resolution honoring Berkeley and the student recognition were procedural items recorded as adopted during the regular meeting; no further action was scheduled.
