Associate Commissioner Camille Cumuze told the board that 1,991 individuals are currently on the developmental‑disability waiting list, with growth attributed to an influx of complex case referrals and significant increases among children.
Cumuze said ADMH will hold Waiver Listening Sessions in each region to collect input from individuals, families and caregivers to help shape Medicaid waiver services. She said the agency decertified several provider settings this quarter over personnel concerns and that patients were relocated; ADMH will continue monitoring provider accountability and safety.
Cumuze also reported increasing crisis referrals from the Department of Human Resources. Commissioner Boswell said ADMH saw an increase in Special Mental Health Funds at the end of FY2025 and plans to use some of those funds to pursue opening an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) in Birmingham, and that discussions with a potential provider partner are underway.
The board did not take a formal funding vote at the meeting; the remarks were recorded as updates and planning steps.
