Teacher proposes 'living libraries' in Soddy-Daisy parks; officials direct follow-up

Angela DuFour, an elementary school teacher, brought a public-comment proposal to the Soddy-Daisy Board on June 6 to install small book kiosks—what she described as "living libraries"—in city parks for preschool through middle-school children.
"I want to install living libraries in the parks," DuFour said. Commissioner Shipley indicated no objection. City Attorney Elliott asked whether the kiosks are like a kiosk structure and suggested Ms. DuFour speak with the City Manager to pursue the idea.
Evelyn Penney suggested DuFour contact the Community Library to ensure there are no conflicts; Mayor Everett said he believed the Kelcurt Foundation would be agreeable and Nate Sanden said he thought a kiosk already exists in North Park.
Officials did not take formal action; they recommended Ms. DuFour discuss the proposal with staff and the Community Library to determine next steps and compatibility with existing park features.
