Commissioners Consider Delaying Vote on Zoning Amendment for Shipping Containers

Commissioner Penney told the Board that members had discussed amending the Zoning Ordinance to address shipping containers being used as storage buildings at a recent workshop. He said the topic needs further discussion.
City Manager Burt Johnson told commissioners staff can ask the Planning Commission to delay its recommendation, which had been advertised for the Aug. 14 Planning Commission meeting and for the Sept. 5 City Commission meeting; tabling the Planning Commission recommendation would push the City Commission vote out about a month.
No formal motion to amend or to table the Planning Commission recommendation was made during the Aug. 1 meeting. Commissioners indicated they wanted additional review before taking formal action.
