Ludington Area School District board unanimously approves two-year contract with teachers’ union, designates banks and OKs equipment purchase

The vote came after the board met briefly in closed session under the Michigan Open Meetings Act (MCL 15.268 Section 8(c)) to discuss collective bargaining strategy. The board moved into closed session at 6:56 p.m. by motion of Mike Winczewski, supported by Stephanie Reed, and returned to open session at 7:26 p.m.
The board then voted 7–0 to approve the LEA master bargaining agreement. The motion to adopt the agreement was made by Alan Neushwander and supported by Mike Nagle. Board minutes record the agreement as resolving a previously reported grievance and alleged Unfair Labor Practice related to the posting and placement of an English Language Learner (ELL) position for the 2025–2026 school year.
In related personnel actions the board voted 7–0 to approve contracts for the administrative/non-union team for the 2025–2026 school year (motion by Stephanie Reed, supported by Mike Winczewski). The board also voted to designate West Shore Bank and UMB Bank as official district depositories and to designate Interim Superintendent Mary Marshall as an authorized signatory on checks, contracts, agreements, purchase orders and for account transfers (motion by Steve Carlson, supported by Sarah Lowman).
The board approved a facilities procurement item authorizing purchase of a replacement dishwasher for the Ludington High School kitchen in an amount not to exceed $40,000. The motion was made by Mike Nagle and supported by Stephanie Reed; the vote was 7–0.
No dissenting votes were recorded on any action items. The board adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
