The Kittitas County Board of Commissioners opened a special meeting at 1:00 p.m. May 13, 2025 and recessed into an executive session to evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for public employment. Chairman Osiadacz announced the session would last 15 minutes and cited RCW 42.30.110(q); he said, “No action anticipated.”
Under state law cited in the announcement (RCW 42.30.110(q) and RCW 42.30.140(4)), a governing body may meet in executive session to evaluate applicants or review employee performance, but any final action to hire, set an individual’s salary, discharge or discipline must be taken in an open meeting. The board reconvened at 1:15 p.m. and the minutes state that no action was taken. The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
The minutes list board members and staff in attendance; the record names Chairman Wright (joining by Webex), Osiadacz, Vice‑Chairman Cory Wachsmith and Office Administrator Mandy Buchholz. The transcript/minutes contain an internal inconsistency about which member is labeled "Chairman" in different lines; the opening of the special meeting and the executive‑session announcement are attributed in the minutes to Chairman Osiadacz (SEG 011).
