Edmond Planning Commission approves site plan for AC and Kaplan Air Sports Complex, sends it to council

The Edmond Planning Commission on Sept. 17 approved a site plan for the AC and Kaplan Air Sports Complex and will forward the proposal to the City Council on Oct. 14.

City of Edmond staff told the commission the project covers roughly 27.5 acres on the east side of Bryant Avenue north of 9th Street and would include 10 ball fields, a restroom and office building, a maintenance building and three parking lots providing about 488 spaces. Staff also said the site would be served at three access points that tie into the existing drive serving Hayford Park and that building elevations show masonry block and prefinished metal panels.

“Staff recommends approval subject to the variances,” a City of Edmond staff member told the commission, referring to requested reductions in parking-area landscaping and plant-unit requirements. The staff presentation noted the design aims to balance playability, parking availability, budget and long-term maintenance.

Commission members asked whether representatives from landscape and parks staff were available; the chair noted those staff were present to answer questions. No members of the public spoke for or against the project during the public-comment period.

A motion to approve the site plan was made, seconded and approved by a 5-0 vote. The chair said the item will be scheduled for consideration by the Edmond City Council on Oct. 14.

Separately, the commission continued an earlier lot-split item—listed in the record as case DD24Dash00006—because the applicant, Castle Custom Homes, was not present. The commission voted 5-0 to continue that case to its Oct. 8 meeting.

The commission adjourned following the votes.
