Edmond Planning Commission approves comp‑plan amendment, final plat and elects officers

The Edmond Planning Commission on June 18 approved multiple items on its agenda, including a comprehensive‑plan amendment for a Danforth Road parcel, tentative final‑plat approval for Carmel Valley Place, and the election of new officers.
Staff introduced a request from Sun Properties to amend the Edmond Plan 2018 for a 2.5‑acre property at 2700 East Danforth Road from suburban commercial to suburban infill. "This application is also more consistent and compatible with the current zoning of the site," Caitlin Turner said on behalf of the applicant, adding that suburban infill would provide a "more graceful transition in land use designations." Staff recommended approval, there were no public speakers, and the commission approved the amendment 5–0. Staff said the item will be forwarded to City Council on July 8.
The commission also revisited the final plat for Carmel Valley Place, a small subdivision of roughly 2.3 acres and three lots on a private roadway. The item had been continued earlier in the meeting while the applicant was en route; commissioners heard that a resolution addressing a common‑area concern appeared to be in progress and, later in the meeting, moved to approve the final plat on the assumption the applicant had resolved issues with the homeowners association. The motion was seconded with the same condition and the commission approved the plat 5–0, instructing staff to inform City Council of the tentative approval.
Members nominated and elected leadership for the coming term. The commission elected Mark Coos as chair by a 5–0 vote; Brian Blundell was nominated and seconded for vice chair and was selected (voice vote). Commissioners also took time to recognize Kenneth Lehi for more than 12 years of service; a staff presentation summarized his tenure and local contributions.
All votes recorded at the meeting were unanimous (5–0). Several items approved by the Planning Commission will be forwarded to City Council where required by ordinance or policy for final action.
