Barry, a county staff member, informed the commission that Thomas resigned before a scheduled vacation and that the county is actively recruiting for a planning director while Tracy assumes the planning manager duties in the interim. Barry said staff is confident in the team’s capabilities but noted capacity constraints and urged planning to prepare for a busier year ahead.
The update also said an attorney typically present was absent because of a family death, prompting staff to postpone a large-subdivision discussion until the first Wednesday in November. Staff told the commission they have begun an active search for a planning director and have multiple candidates under consideration.
Commissioners thanked staff and congratulated Tracy on the new role. The commission did not take formal personnel action at this meeting; staff said they will continue recruitment and return with updates as hiring progresses.
