Council approves Synagro contract to remove excess sludge from reclamation facility

Henderson City Council approved awarding a contract to Synagro for removal of excess biosolids from the Henderson Water Reclamation Facility on Oct. 12, 2020, and approved a budget amendment to create the CIP project funding.
Interim Henderson Water Reclamation Facility Director Christy Lipscomb told council the plant’s two oxidation ditches included one that is full of sludge. Lipscomb said the city could run the excess through the plant but that would be slower and more costly; by contrast, Synagro could remove the material in roughly one month. She said funds earmarked for other projects that have not started will be used so the plant can return to efficient operation; those put‑on‑hold projects will be addressed in the upcoming budget.
Council voted to approve Resolution 20-72 and Ordinance 20-32 and to establish Budget Amendment #4 to fund the CIP removal project; the motion carried on a roll call with all attending members voting yes (Council Member Rainey was noted earlier in the minutes as audible but later unable to be heard; the roll call for this motion listed unanimous support among voting members present).
