Benton County’s Finance Committee on Nov. 12 approved sending multiple grant applications, appropriations and transfers to the Quorum Court for final action.
The committee unanimously approved Resolution 6b1, a BJA OJP SCIP grant application for juvenile probation seeking $50,000 with no cash match, and Resolution 6b2, a separate SCIP application for specialty courts (including PACT and substance‑use treatment) requesting $200,000 with no cash match. Staff said the awards would fund community‑based services and specialty‑court programming.
Staff also reported a USDA NRCS Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) project for War Eagle and Clifty with an estimated project cost of about $400,000; NRCS is providing $86,976.56 and the county’s matching obligation is $313,023.44. Committee members discussed previous movements of the associated transfers between road and storm‑damage funds and agreed to forward the related transfers to Quorum Court.
Other transfers and appropriations moved forward to Quorum Court included a facilities mower purchase ($16,009.99), $8,004.38 for audio/video equipment in Circuit Court Division 4, and an appropriation of roughly $67,004.19 (the county’s 16% share) for the Jones Trust Center chiller. The committee also approved a $15,300 appropriation for the Children and Family Advocacy Center to address a year‑specific shortfall.
What’s next: staff will prepare Quorum Court packets for the grants, transfers and appropriations. Several items (including the Jones Trust payment) are subject to final approval by Quorum Court.
