Hancock County supervisors approve facility flooring contracts, set tax-levy and budget hearings, authorize $1.2M in claims

At its Feb. 20 adjourned session in Garner, the Hancock County Board of Supervisors approved routine consent items including two facilities contracts, set two public hearings on county finances, and authorized payment of more than $1.2 million in vendor claims.
On a motion by Supervisor Jerry J. Tlach, seconded by Supervisor Florence (Sis) Greiman, the Board approved the lowest of two quotes for replacement carpet in the Law Enforcement Center and judges’ chambers and courtrooms: $17,328.35 from InStep Flooring of Kanawha. The Board also approved a quote from K & K Floors and Cleaning Service of Garner for stripping and rewaxing tile floors in the Law Enforcement Center for $1,315.
The Board set March 27, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. for a public hearing on Hancock County’s proposed property tax levy for fiscal year 2024-2025, and set March 11, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. for a public hearing on an amendment to the county’s FY2023-24 budget. The Board also recorded allowance and disallowance actions on various family farm credit applications.
The Board authorized the County Auditor to issue checks for claims on file from Feb. 5 to Feb. 20, 2024. The claims register includes many line items; the total amount authorized is $1,206,610.80. Among the larger single items on the register are a $445,000.00 invoice to BMC Aggregates LC, $40,507.79 to MORT'S WATER COMPANY, a $39,247.28 payment to Reutzel Excavating Inc., and a $38,175.67 final payment to Dean Snyder Construction Co. The meeting record shows the motion to adjourn at 11:07 a.m. was made by Supervisor Tlach and carried unanimously.
Next steps: the County will publish hearing notices and the Auditor will process the authorized claims according to standard procedure.
