Butler County Board approves Access Systems lease, records PPEL special-election loss

The Butler County Board of Supervisors met March 18, 2025, and approved routine business including an Access Systems lease for county IT use, certified local election results and set its next meeting for March 25.
Leslie Groen, Butler County Auditor, told the board that the Conservation office has been placed on the county network and described a new lease agreement with Access Systems that will be managed through the county IT department. Wayne Dralle moved to approve the agreement, Greg Barnett seconded, and the motion carried on unanimous votes of those present.
County Engineer John Riherd updated the board on infrastructure and staffing. Riherd said bridge projects are coming up soon and that there is internal interest in an open position in Shell Rock. He also summarized takeaways from an Iowa State Association of Counties conference, including discussions about bonding and a possible proposal to separate Secondary Roads into its own levy. Riherd said he was successful in his application to the National Association of County Engineers and will represent the State of Iowa.
The board completed the second-tier canvass of the March 4 North Butler Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) special election and recorded that public measure 'CS' did not pass. The board approved county claims by motion later in the meeting and acknowledged receipt of Manure Management Plan Short Form Annual Updates from Christensen Farms & Feedlots Inc.
By 9:16 a.m. the meeting was adjourned. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for March 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
