Butler County awards DOT bridge rehabilitation contract to Wicks Construction and designates engineer as signatory

The Butler County Board of Supervisors awarded Iowa DOT Contract 12-C012-128 to Wicks Construction, Inc. on March 4 after opening bids for four bridge rehabilitation projects. The low bid of $1,190,121 from Wicks Construction was accepted on a motion by Greg Barnett, seconded by Wayne Dralle, and passed with all ayes.
The projects listed in the DOT contract include: the T55 bridge over the West Fork Cedar River (BHS-C012(128)) and three T25 bridge projects over local streams and the West Fork Cedar River (BHS-C012(129)–(131)). The board’s award follows the bid openings, which included proposals from Hawkeye Paving Corporation, Boulder Contracting, Cramer & Associates and Jasper Construction Services.
Following the award, the board approved Resolution #17-2025 (motion by Barnett, second by Dralle; roll call ayes from Dralle, Eddy and Barnett) designating John Riherd, Butler County Engineer, as the authorized signatory to execute contract documents related to the DOT-let projects electronically using Doc Express and Appia after the county receives required contract documents such as the contractor’s bond and certificate of insurance. The resolution states the designation is effective once those documents are received.
An engineer’s update given later in the meeting by Scanlan noted a pavement project is moving forward and crews will be plowing snow this week. No construction start dates or contractor schedules were provided in the meeting record.
