County engineer outlines T‑16 asphalt project, T‑25 deck overlays and pavement-marking plans

John Riherd, Butler County's county engineer, updated the Board of Supervisors on a package of road projects and related procurement at the April 1 meeting.

Riherd said Mathy Construction is the primary contractor for an asphalt project on T-16 through Dumont; he estimated about 11 subcontractors will participate and said work is on schedule to begin next week. He also reported that deck overlays on T-25 are scheduled to start next week and identified PCI and Boulder as concrete subcontractors tied to the county contracts.

On pavement markings, Riherd told the board bids varied and that Kam Line Highway Markings was selected to perform centerline repainting countywide and edge lining primarily south of Highway 3. He said the county hopes to get back to a schedule of lining roughly half the county each season.

Riherd said two chassis/truck units have been ordered "to stay ahead of the tariffs," and the county is pursuing a DARA grant to help cover part of the chassis purchase tied to funds from an earlier Volkswagen emissions settlement. He said staff will try to put information on the radio to notify the public about upcoming road closures.

The board did not amend or block the engineer's plans; they approved related permits and claims as part of routine business. Riherd's update focused on scheduling, contractor selection, and notification plans rather than on new funding authorizations.
