Whitfield County approves grants, contracts and vehicle purchases including VOCA and transit grant application

Whitfield County’s Board of Commissioners on Feb. 9 approved a slate of grants, contracts and equipment purchases affecting public safety, transit, parks and county operations.
The board ratified a memorandum of agreement related to a federal Victim of Crimes Act Assistance Grant (VOCA) for Oct. 1, 2025–Sept. 30, 2026 in the amount of $125,130. Commissioners also ratified a $5,000 Senior Hunger Innovation Grant application to the NWGRC Area Agency on Aging and approved Juvenile Court’s application for FY2026 Delinquency Prevention continuation funds (awards up to $40,000).
In departmental contracts, the Tax Assessor’s Office approved a four-year webpage mapping and parcel maintenance agreement with Schneider (year 1 cost $61,664, a $30,452 increase) and ratified a three-year TrueRoll subscription for homestead and deed services ($42,655 year 1). The board ratified architectural and engineering services with KRH Architects of Dalton to design a courthouse ADA ramp and entrance elevator (initial ratified design cost $34,452.52; remainder of fee at 6% of the elevator construction cost).
Public safety and operations purchases included approval to buy two K9-ready vehicles from Hardy Chevrolet for $118,321.12 using 2024 SPLOST funds; the selected bid met specifications and included a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty. The board approved purchase of a 2026 F-250 truck for the animal shelter at state contract pricing ($65,890). Public Works annual material contracts were approved with Basic Ready Mix, Vulcan Materials and Old Castle Infrastructure.
Emergency management received approval to contract North Georgia Consulting Group to prepare a Hazard Mitigation Plan grant ($43,680), with FEMA reimbursement anticipated and $14,560 of in-kind stakeholder labor included in the grant. Whitfield County Transit was authorized to apply for the 2026 Transit Trust Fund Program grant for $133,468 to support capital replacement and maintenance; the application requires no county match.
