Several Bay Minette residents used the citizen‑comment period at the June 6 council meeting to press city leaders on neighborhood concerns and a business annexation.
Shirley Sanders told the council she objected to the towing of her grandson’s motor scooter from near her residence on East Hurricane. Macsoneyia Sanders said audience members were offended by Mayor Wills’s prior reference to the phrase "You People" at the prior meeting; the minutes state Mayor Wills apologized and that Macsoneyia Sanders accepted the apology. Shakela Stevens criticized the attitudes of police officers present during events following the May Day celebration. Patecia Mallory and Lawanda Mims said there had been a nearby shooting and that they faced evictions by their landlord as a result.
Martha and Dan McKenzie spoke about their small family business, McKenzie Oil Company (nine stores), and distributed a financial report. Dan McKenzie raised concerns about the financial effect that a pending annexation could have on their operation; the Council had approved a first reading of the pre‑zoning ordinance for annexed property earlier in the meeting but no final annexation decision was recorded at this session.
The meeting minutes note expressions of gratitude from Joshua Brown to community organizations including the Douglasville Revitalization Committee and the Bay Minette Police Department for cooperation on neighborhood work.
No formal action addressing the towing, policing conduct, evictions or McKenzie’s annexation concerns was recorded at the meeting; these matters were presented during the public‑comment portion of the agenda and will require follow‑up if the Council or staff choose to act.
