The Bay Minette City Council on July 18 approved the city payables for the period in the amount of $153,328.36 and a slate of resolutions covering sponsorships, retiree payments, appointments and facility rental waivers.
Councilmember Mike Phillips moved and Councilmember William Taylor seconded approval of the payables, which passed unanimously. The council approved Resolution 0722-04 to sponsor the United Way with $1,500 drawn from contingency funds and allocated as Mayor $1,000 and Districts 1, 2, 3 and 5 at $125 each; Councilmember Pete Sellers moved and Councilmember Matt Franklin seconded the resolution, and the vote was unanimous. The council also approved Resolution 0722-05 authorizing a one-time lump-sum longevity payment for retirees and Resolution 0722-06 appointing Gayland Hadley and Barbara Judge to the Bay Minette Housing Authority; both measures passed unanimously.
Two rental-fee waiver requests from the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce—one for Halliday Park Pavilion on Nov. 12, 2022, and one for the John F. Rhodes Civic Center on Nov. 11, 2022 for Veteran's Day events—were tabled until the next regular meeting after a motion to table carried unanimously. The council approved other facility waivers: Resolution 0722-09 waiving John F. Rhodes Civic Center rental fees for the Baldwin County High School Alumni Association event on Aug. 20, 2022, and Resolution 0722-10 waiving the civic center fee for the Gideons International North Baldwin Pastor’s Appreciation Banquet on Sept. 22, 2022.
Council also approved Resolution 0722-11 providing $250 in financial assistance to Chosen Outreach, to be expended from District 4 contingency. During council/citizen comments, Gladys Hunter of 112 Abernathy Avenue told the council she had cleared and maintained a wooded area next to her property for more than 20 years and placed a storage shed there; City Planner Clair Dorough told the council the shed sits in a right-of-way and would need to be moved. Mayor Robert A. Wills requested Hunter’s contact information so the council can review her situation. The meeting adjourned after a unanimous motion to do so.
