Livingston Union OKs $1 million reallocation to replace aging Yamato Colony portable classrooms

The Livingston Union School District Board of Trustees on Feb. 10, 2026 approved the replacement of three portable classrooms at Yamato Colony Elementary and authorized staff to begin all necessary steps to proceed.
Director of Maintenance, Operations & Transportation Nick Jones told the board the three portables are more than 25 years old and presented two replacement options and estimated costs. Staff recommended reallocating $1 million that had been designated for the Livingston Middle School PE/library project to fund the portable replacements so the work can be completed in time for the 2026–27 school year. The board approved the recommendation by motion (Trustee Yolanda Correia moved; Trustee Anne Land seconded) with a recorded 4‑0 vote.
During the facilities review staff also reported that the DCR building must be replaced sooner than anticipated, prompting a change in the order of board‑approved capital projects so the DCR replacement will be prioritized ahead of the LMS project. Staff said design options and estimated costs for the reprioritized projects will be presented in coming months.
The board’s action authorizes staff to proceed with procurement and project planning; specific contracts, firm cost estimates and construction schedules were not included in the minutes and will be reported later.
