The Marquette County Extension Education Committee on Aug. 19 approved a proposed 2026 budget that includes a .25 full‑time‑equivalent regional crops educator and sent the proposal to the Executive and Finance Committee for final consideration. The motion to approve the budget with the position included was made by John Bennett and seconded by Dennis Fenner; the minutes state the motion “carried” but do not provide a vote tally.
Pat Wagner, Area Extension Director, presented two budget scenarios — one including the .25 FTE regional agriculture educator and one without — and answered committee members’ questions about staffing options and cost implications. Heidi Johnson, UW–Madison Division of Extension Agriculture Institute Director, joined virtually to outline options for staffing Marquette County based on available FTEs.
Committee members emphasized county agriculture needs identified in a recent community needs forum and reviewed the attached forum report, which Wagner said aligns with current program direction and will be shared with county strategic planning staff. After discussion, the committee approved the budget with the regional crops educator included as presented and referred it to the Executive and Finance Committee for action.
The committee also completed a routine voucher review. The next Extension Education Committee meeting is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2025.
