Moody City Council approves $50,000 rescue tools, reappoints EDC member and raises judge’s pay

The meeting, called to order by Mayor Joe Lee at 6:00 p.m., proceeded through routine agenda items and votes. Council members approved a $500 sponsorship for the Moody High School golf team and authorized training and travel expenses for public‑safety personnel, including lodging and incidentals for four school resource officers to attend the TAASRO conference June 1–6 (cost not to exceed $7,500; two officers’ costs to be shared with the county commission).
Major purchases approved at the meeting included a $50,000 capital purchase of rescue tools from Coastal Rescue Solutions (capital budget request 2024–2025, account 01‑514‑9900) and a $15,298.50 renewal of the First Due Fire & EMS reporting software (01‑514‑3000). The council also approved replacement of an alternator on a 2018 Pierce pumper ($2,711.25, 01‑514‑4502) and a $1,175 trip for two staff members to the Spring Fire Marshals Conference in Guntersville, Ala.
The Moody Police Department received approval to renew the Cell Bright investigative cell‑phone software license at $10,000 (budgeted to 01‑513‑3000), and to cover lodging/expenses for SROs attending the conference. The IT department was authorized to buy nine Wi‑Fi access points ($1,827, IT 01‑512‑2503), a Sophos XGS firewall (not to exceed $3,600), and 35 Cisco DUO Essentials multi‑factor authentication licenses for one year ($1,225), all budgeted capital or IT items.
Mayor Lee recommended reappointing Joe Kelly to the St. Clair County Economic Development Council board for a three‑year term; Council Member Linda Crowe moved the reappointment and the measure passed unanimously. The council also voted to raise the City Judge’s pay to $1,500 per month, approving the change by unanimous vote.
Most votes on the evening’s agenda were recorded as "all present voted AYE." The only recorded deviation was on approval of the Jan. 13 minutes, when Council Member Matt Morris abstained; the motion still carried. The meeting was adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
