Moody City Council approves routine training, equipment purchases and accepts city audit

Moody — The Moody City Council on Feb. 24 approved multiple routine municipal actions, including police and fire training requests, park equipment purchases, renewal of a Civic Center subscription and acceptance of the city audit for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2024.

Mayor Joe Lee opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. and the council recognized Sgt. Mike Long for delivering a baby on Feb. 12, 2025, an item presented by Police Chief Reece Smith. The council then moved through its consent and action agenda, adopting the published agenda and approving prior meeting minutes (the minutes approval recorded two abstentions).

Public safety approvals included authorization to send Brian Smith to an Active Shooter Instructor School in Mobile, Ala., on March 16, 2025 (cost $595, budget item 01-513-1500), and to send two sergeants to FBI LEEDA Supervisor training in Birmingham March 25–28, 2025 (cost $1,590, budget item 01-513-1500). Police Chief Reece Smith presented both requests and council motions to approve were seconded and carried unanimously.

Fire Chief Larry Horton requested and the council approved the annual aerial test with vendor CFS Inspections for $1,380 (budget item 01-514-5400) and installation of headsets and a radio in the department's new F150 (vendor Red Beard Solutions, $3,129.80, budget item 01-514-5400).
