Lemon Grove board approves routine measures, accepts $5,000 pickleball donation and recognizes student presentations

At its April 16, 2024 meeting the Lemon Grove governing board approved several routine measures, recognized student presentations and acknowledged a $5,000 donation to support pickleball facilities at Lemon Grove Academy Middle.
On a motion by Cheryl Robertson, seconded by Yajaira Preciado, the board approved a J-13A waiver allowing attendance adjustments for January storms. The board also approved the district’s 2024–25 Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators (motion by Dr. Javier Ayala, second by Cheryl Robertson) and authorized the sale of surplus district vehicle(s) (motion by Jasmin Smith, second by Cheryl Robertson). Recorded votes on these items were unanimous among members present.
The board approved the consent agenda (items B–JJ) with Consent Item 7.CC removed; Cheryl Robertson moved and Jasmin Smith seconded the consent vote. The consent list as read into the record included minutes, personnel actions, commercial warrants, gifts to the district, multiple contract ratifications and amendments, purchase orders, travel approvals and instructional materials quotes as enumerated on the agenda.
In recognitions, Principal Torazzi Hayslett and Assistant Principal Cynthia Rodriguez introduced students from San Altos Elementary who presented as part of a Culturally and Historically Responsive Teaching showcase. Anissa Zuniga of the Lemon Grove Historical Society introduced winners of an eighth-grade history essay competition. Interim Superintendent Marianna Vinson acknowledged a $5,000 donation from the Lemon Grove Pickleball Club to fund new nets and repaint pickleball lines on middle school courts.
