The Lemon Grove School District Governing Board on July 23 unanimously approved its annual board priorities, revised meeting dates for the 2024 calendar year and a series of routine consent items and financial resolutions.
Board Clerk Yajaira Preciado and four other governing board members — Dr. Javier Ayala, Dorinda Miller, Cheryl Robertson and Jasmin Smith — voted 5-0 to carry the motions after the board pulled several consent items for separate action at the start of the meeting. The board adjourned briefly to closed session on personnel and litigation matters and returned to open session with a report that no action had been taken in closed session.
The board approved standard consent-agenda items including minutes from prior meetings, personnel actions, commercial warrants, contract ratifications and purchase orders, revolving cash and student body account reconciliations, and a 2024-2025 student calendar revision. Trustee Yajaira Preciado acknowledged a $3,000 donation from Vista La Mesa Academy’s PTA to support field trips; that gift was approved as part of the consent agenda.
The board also approved an array of administrative and financial resolutions, including designations of authorized agents to sign school orders (both commercial warrants and cafeteria/revolving funds), authorization to replace or reissue voided warrants, and the district’s Cal OES applicant-agent designation for non-state agencies. A procurement action approving a quote from Bearcom was carried, and the board adopted a Classified Management Salary Schedule update and a new job description for a Nutrition Services Program Manager.
Dr. Tomas Chavez, the district’s Director of Human Resources, introduced three newly hired administrators who joined the meeting and were welcomed by the board: Tiana Barton, Chief Business Official; Azucena Garcia, Assistant Principal at Lemon Grove Academy Middle; and Matthew Sheelen, Assistant Principal at Lemon Grove Academy Elementary and San Altos Elementary.
The board noted two items for future agendas — moving Board Members’ correspondence to closing functions and budget development — before adjourning at 7:27 p.m.
