Garvey Board honors outgoing president Bobbi Bruesch and seats newly elected members

The Garvey Board of Education opened its Dec. 12 regular meeting with a tribute to outgoing Board President Bobbi Bruesch, whom trustees and local officials praised for six decades of service to the district.
Board members thanked Bruesch for longtime leadership. Trustee Ronald Trabanino said it “has been a pleasure working together since 2013,” and Trustee Andrew Yam called Bruesch “a wealth of knowledge who has done so much for the district for 60 years.” Superintendent Anita Chu described Bruesch as “a committed leader” with “a heart of gold,” and announced a retirement party for Jan. 25, 2025 at Willard Elementary to honor her service.
The board also administered Oaths of Office to returning and newly elected trustees: Maureen Chin was sworn in by Mayor Vinh Ngo and John Nunez was sworn in by his son, John Nunez Jr. Trustees then nominated and unanimously elected board officers for 2025: Paul Duran as President (motion by Ronald Trabanino; seconded by Maureen Chin), Andrew Yam as Vice President and Ronald Trabanino as Clerk. The board also appointed Anita Chu as Secretary.
Local officials in attendance acknowledged the board’s work and the newly seated members. The board took a 15-minute recess at 7:14 p.m. and later reconvened for the remainder of the agenda.
