Garvey Board approves multiple contracts and facilities work; Sanchez civil improvements pass 4-1

The Garvey Board of Education approved a series of contracts and Notices of Completion at its Dec. 11 meeting, authorizing bond-funded facilities work across district campuses.
Approved items included a piggyback purchase and installation of intercoms at four schools with a total cost of $307,316.34; a 60-month SentinelOne Managed Detection and Response service at $90,417.75; and multiple Notices of Completion for Emerson projects (fire alarm, IDF rooms, field restoration). The board also approved ADA restroom renovations and demolition at Hillcrest Elementary and accepted Notices of Completion for other projects.
A noticed contract with GDL Best Contractors to make civil improvements at Sanchez Elementary related to water intrusion (preparing Room 18 for an eSports program) was approved on a 4-1 vote after Board Member John Nunez expressed concerns about drainage design and curb protection. Anita Chu said the drainage plan was developed by professional civil engineers based on field surveys. The motion carried with Nunez voting no.
The board approved a Notice of Completion for modular classroom ramp extensions at Emerson Elementary and accepted other project completions, recording project costs and funding sources (primarily Bond Funds).
Board members asked clarifying questions about scope and prior approvals for modular and Emerson projects; staff explained that the Emerson work was part of multiple related projects with staggered Notices of Completion. The board extended the meeting to 10:00 p.m. to finish business and approved disposal of obsolete surplus property as listed in the minutes.
Several projects are funded from bond proceeds; staff indicated procurement used state/piggyback contracts where appropriate.
