Lemon Grove board elects 2025 officers, approves meeting calendar and committee rosters

The Lemon Grove School District Governing Board elected Dr. Javier Ayala as Board President for the Dec. 14, 2024–Dec. 12, 2025 term and approved its calendar and committee representation for 2025 during its Dec. 17 regular meeting.

Board President Dr. Javier Ayala administered the oath of office to newly elected trustees Yajaira Preciado, Cheryl Robertson and Jasmin Smith. The Board then adopted the regular meeting dates, times and locations for 2025 and approved committee appointments that assign trustees to standing groups including City-School District Collaboration, the Committee on African-American Student Achievement and Success, the District Advisory Committee, the District English Learner Advisory Committee, Early Learning, Employee Wellness and Safety, Family & Community Collaboration, Special Education Advisory, and Student Health and Wellness.

The Board voted to elect officers for the upcoming year. On a motion by Dorinda Miller, seconded by Jasmin Smith, Ayala was elected Board President; the motion carried 4–1 (Cheryl Robertson opposed). Dorinda Miller nominated, and Cheryl Robertson seconded, Yajaira Preciado for Board Vice President; that motion carried unanimously. Jasmin Smith was elected Board Clerk on a motion by Dr. Javier Ayala, seconded by Dorinda Miller, which also carried unanimously.

Trustees also approved a motion naming the superintendent as secretary to the Board. All motions listed above carried on recorded roll calls as noted at the meeting.

The Board adjourned to a closed session at 5:11 p.m. and resumed at 6:15 p.m.; no action was reported from closed session.
