McPherson County board fills key posts, approves equipment financing and adopts policy resolutions

During 2021 the McPherson County Board of Commissioners completed a package of administrative actions: appointments, equipment authorizations and policy resolutions that shape operations for the year.
Appointments and staffing: The board appointed Whitney Schroeder Lindstedt as McPherson County Attorney (Resolution #2021‑5) and adopted a motion appointing Tom Werblow as Highway Superintendent with a $9,000 salary (Resolution #2021‑2). Rich Cook was appointed as Weed Superintendent for 2021 with wages at $12.00/hour. The board also appointed a local list of representatives and alternates to regional boards (911 Advisory Board, Sandhills RC&D, West Central District Health Department board, and others) and approved Bonnie Edwards of North Platte to act as county surveyor with no county fee.
Equipment and capital finance: The board approved a two‑year comprehensive extended warranty for a county John Deere grader ($15,600) and later authorized borrowing from the Inheritance Fund to purchase a tractor and loader for $55,900 with a loan amortization schedule (Resolution #2021‑25). The commissioners also reviewed and approved repairs on county trucks, a garage repair estimate, and declared obsolete V‑plows surplus for disposal.
Policy and positions: In April the board debated and adopted Resolution #2021‑14 expressing support for the Second Amendment; the vote recorded was 2–1 (Arensdorf and Nason in favor, Bryant opposed). In September the board adopted Resolution #2021‑20 opposing the federal 30x30 initiative (vote 2–1). The board set salaries for elected officials for the 2023–2026 term (Resolution #2021‑26), specifying base salaries and insurance benefits or a cash option.
Contracts and operational resolutions: The county designated depositories, authorized the treasurer to invest county funds (Resolution #2021‑4), signed a two‑year contract with Caleb Johnson for budget preparation, and adopted the One & Six Year Road Plan (Resolution #2021‑11). The board approved a three‑year audit engagement and routine claims and budgets items through the year.
County clerk Kathy Hoberg certified and published required reports and the board signed quarterly fee reports and other administrative documents. Several motions came with recorded votes in the minutes; others were unanimous approvals noted in the record. The board indicated that equipment purchases and appointments were intended to maintain operations and support road programs and public services through the fiscal year.
