McPherson County commissioners approved the 2020–21 fiscal budget and associated tax and appropriation resolutions at a special meeting Sept. 16, 2020.
After a public budget hearing, the board voted unanimously to adopt the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2020–21. The commissioners then approved RESOLUTION 2020-15 allowing a 1% increase of restricted funds, RESOLUTION 2020-16 (Resolution of Adoption and Appropriations) and RESOLUTION 2020-17 (Property Tax Request). The latter sets the county’s property tax request that will cause the county tax rate to be .291075 per $100 of assessed value, a change from the 2019–20 rate of .285492.
Commissioners also approved RESOLUTION 2020-18 reauthorizing petty cash funds and RESOLUTION 2020-19 authorizing a temporary transfer of $22,000 from the Inheritance Tax Fund to the General Road Fund with repayment upon receipt of highway allocation funds.
Board members said the total operating budget will exceed last year’s operating budget by 1% driven by changes in revenue and appropriations. The board adjourned after adopting resolutions and setting the next regular meeting date.
