McPherson County board reorganizes, raises road-worker wages and approves county appointments

At its Jan. 10 statutory meeting the McPherson County Board reappointed leadership, approved pay and operational schedules for the road department, and adopted several contracts and appointments including the county attorney and highway superintendent.
Harold Arensdorf called the McPherson County Board of Commissioners to order on Jan. 10, 2018 for the county's annual statutory meeting and regular monthly session. The board approved minutes from the prior meeting and reappointed Arensdorf as chairman and John Bryant as vice chairman for 2018.
The board discussed county roads with Road Worker Ed Black, approved the January Road Plan, and set the One and Six Year Road Plan hearing for 10 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2018. On personnel and compensation, the board adopted RESOLUTION #2018-1 to increase road workers’ wages by $0.30 per hour while leaving other pay and charge rates unchanged and published the county’s road and labor price schedule for 2018.
The board completed its annual organizational duties by adopting a series of appointments and contracts: RESOLUTION #2018-2 designating local banks as county depositories for 2018; reappointments to the McPherson County Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment (pending acceptance); reappointing Shareen Munson as zoning administrator (pending acceptance); RESOLUTION #2018-3 authorizing the county treasurer to invest surplus funds; RESOLUTION #2018-4 reappointing Tom Werblow as highway superintendent at an annual salary set for the year; and RESOLUTION #2018-5 approving Whitney S. Lindstedt as county attorney under contract. The board also reappointed Boni Edwards as county surveyor under RESOLUTION #2018-6 and made a series of representative and committee assignments (solid waste, aging board, mental health board, West Central Weed Management Area and others).
Board members received the annual weed report from Weed Superintendent Rich (Richard) Cook and reappointed courthouse and park custodial positions and other administrative roles. The board authorized routine administrative items including the designation of the Stapleton Enterprise as the county newspaper and the setting of county burial fees at $1,500.
The board recessed to meet as the Board of Equalization later in the meeting and approved two tax list corrections to correct parcel acreage after GIS review, then reconvened the regular meeting. The board tabled action on a senior meal provider that had closed and scheduled follow-up with the senior meal director at the February meeting.
The meeting closed after approving claims and setting the next regular meeting for Feb. 14, 2018.
